Entertainment and Recreation
Rehabilitation of an historic masonry and wood building and adjacent structures to create a contemporary venue for theater, music, dance, lectures, community events, and family programming.
State-of-the-art facilities include a 155-seat black box theater with sophisticated A/V systems, hi-tech climate and lighting controls, acoustical wall and ceiling finishes, sound curtains, and a steel catwalk. This 1,900 square foot studio doubles as a multi-purpose room with flexible seating from 120 to 180 for public assemblies. The complex also includes a dramatic lobby with box office, 4,700 square feet of retail and commercial space, and 4,300 square feet of community space.
The arts center encompasses the former Davis Furniture and Hawk buildings, originally home to the Wellsboro Agitator newspaper dating back to 1885. This project is an important strategic revitalization effort for Wellsboro’s historic district.
