Dickinson College - Waidner Library Addition and Spahr Library Renovations

Construction of a complex concrete and structural steel structure with stone veneer addition which includes a self-contained special collections reading and stack area, and extensive exhibit and gathering spaces for the College’s rare book collection. Custom wood window system reflects both the windows of the older campus buildings and the monumental window design of the existing library.

The renovation included modifications to open study spaces, new wood windows and extensive new casework and wood trim, all while the library remained occupied. The addition utilizes the same limestone used throughout the original campus, and was brought from the original quarry. The interior space was designed to integrate the two buildings by placing the circulation desk in the two-story, linking space.
