Geisinger Health - Buckhorn Administrative Office Building Phase II

In 2009, we constructed a 94,245 square foot, new administrative office building for Geisinger. In 2011, we began construction on an additional 37,025 square feet of administrative office space to the building. The new addition includes a three-story atrium connecting the existing building with the addition. An expansive roof skylight allows significant natural light into the atrium and perimeter offices. Utility upgrades included an underground rainwater collection system to collect and utilize rainwater and also serve as an emergency water supply back-up for the HVAC system / cooling tower. The addition's IT needs are served via three new IT closets equipped with new network equipment.

The existing parking lot was expanded and a new parking lot was added to provide additional spaces for the added occupancy of the addition. A walking trail surrounding the entire facility was also added for employee wellness.

A challenging aspect of this project was that the existing building was occupied during construction and tie-in of the addition, so a number of activities had to be performed on the weekends to minimize disruptions. It was critical to coordinate this activity and man the project accordingly to achieve completion of certain phases. This challenge among others was overcome by extensive pre-planning in a team approach with Geisinger facilities representatives.
