Lehigh University - Caruso Wrestling Complex

The 4th and 5th floors of Grace Hall housed the Ulrich Student Center which included a movie theatre and post office. The student center services were moved to other facilities at Lehigh University so a total transformation could begin to make the facility second to none in college wrestling and almost triple the amount of space for training.

The Caruso Wrestling Complex in Grace Hall includes:

  • The Hall of Champions
  • Wrestling practice mezzanine with five full mats
  • State-of-the-art weight and fitness training
  • Offices and meeting rooms
  • Team room and lockers
  • Training room
  • Team lounge and study space with real-time video playback system

The wrestling complex rests on a hill with its own access from the south side directly onto the 4th floor. An exterior door, railing and steps were added for the radio station and all work was performed while working around the operating radio station. The project also involved adding steel to enforce the flooring of the practice room on the 5th floor as well as insulating and ventilating the upper ceiling. Wrestling mats were hand-lifted into place from the 4th floor to the 5th floor by a team due to not having a mat lift. Wrestling mats can shrink for a period of up to one year from the time of installation.
