Healthcare and CCRC This project involves a 3-story, 30,180 square foot addition, adjacent to and above the Health Services Wing of the existing hospital, and the complete renovation of 14,000 square feet of the existing ground floor, which currently houses the Radiology Oncology Department and Information Services. The addition includes a 3,100 square foot Penthouse that houses two new air handling units dedicated to serving the new wing as well as a new pharmacy area. Construction is being completed above and adjacent to occupied patient areas in multiple phases. While constructing above the existing occupied structure, existing roof top mechanical equipment was required to be kept in operation to service the Radiation Oncology and Information Services departments below. In addition, the renovation involves a complex structural retrofit that modifies the structure from a CMU load bearing system to a structural steel frame. This retrofit required a detailed shoring design that allowed for the demolition of existing load bearing walls to accommodate the installation of new concrete footings and steel columns all while supporting the existing structure and new addition. The new Cancer Center includes cancer treatment infusion units, patient exam rooms, procedure rooms, physician offices, pharmacy and a glass-enclosed two-story atrium.
