The Chandlee Laboratory project consisted of 70,000 square feet of renovations of an existing laboratory building at the center of Penn State’s University Park campus. Upgrades included new windows, new ADA compliant exterior entrances and complete renovation of interior spaces. The building was partially occupied during the construction phase so safety was a key factor to ensure access to students and research faculty. Interior renovations included the demolition and replacement of the existing mechanical and electrical systems and code upgrades to building partitions and shafts. New laboratory casework and new interior finishes were also provided. An existing elevator was refurbished and a new elevator was added as part of the project scope. Upgrades also included the addition of a new animal laboratory research space. Separate mechanical and electrical systems were installed for this specialty research space.
