The Pennsylvania State University - Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building

The new Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building houses the college’s Business; Engineering; Information Sciences and Technology; and Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management degree programs.

The approximate 62,000 SF building is the largest academic facility at Penn State Berks.  It showcases a two and three-story layout featuring nine new classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art communications technologies, dedicated laboratory space allowing more sustained and sophisticated investigations, and 52 new faculty offices.  A new café contains indoor seating for 36 as well as additional seating for 36 on the adjoining patio.  The café kitchen area serves as laboratory space for the Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management degree programs.  In addition, the facility features a lecture hall, conference rooms, a design studio, and student study areas.

Various construction aspects of the facility include a steel frame with a terracotta rainscreen, aluminum windows and curtainwall glazed with 1 ¼ inch eco-glass which has an R value of 11 and over 20,000 square feet of exposed polished concrete which complements the minimalistic interior finishes.

Sustainability elements include underground rain harvesting tanks, water efficient fixtures, enhanced commissioning and refrigerant management and a heat-recovery system.  The project received LEED Gold Certification from the U.S.G.B.C.

It also won the Project of the Year Award from the CMAA Mid-Atlantic Chapter.
