Healthcare and CCRC
Construction of a 10-story, 452,000 square foot medical complex that houses two independently operated hospitals. Temple's component consists of a 50-bed pediatric acute care facility with operating/recovery suites, an emergency department, ICU/CCU, radiology, sterile processing, and research departments. Shriners’ component consists of a 59-bed unit for special pediatric orthopedic and spinal cord injury patients, and includes a burn center, research laboratories, care for cleft pallets, and a variety of outpatient services. Both hospitals contain medical offices and administrative support areas. The building is constructed of structural steel with concrete decks and a precast concrete exterior. A sixth floor bridge connects the hospitals across a central atrium. An underground utility tunnel provides routing for steam and chilled water connections to Temple’s central steam plant. A six-level, 240-space, precast concrete parking garage was also included, adjacent to Shriners Hospital. A second five-level, 485-space parking garage was constructed adjacent to Temple Hospital under a separate contract (see Tioga Street Garage & Pedestrian Bridge).
