University of Pennsylvania Medical Center – Biomedical Research Building

Construction of a 14-story, 200,000 square foot research facility built on top of an existing two-story chiller plant. Work included demolition of an adjacent structure, site excavation and underpinning, dismantling of the cooling towers from atop the existing plant, construction of the new laboratory building, reinstallation of the cooling towers on the new roof, and completion of critical mechanical, electrical, and structural work. The compressed 9-month schedule allowed the chiller plant to be operational again by the following April, the start of the University’s cooling season.
