Expansion of an underground facility for the production of radio-isotopes for use in the manufacture of imaging compounds used in nuclear medicine. Construction on the tight urban site required excavating 17 to 23 feet below an existing pedestrian plaza. A new poured concrete bunker features two rooms with 5-foot thick walls, a 7-foot thick roof, and 5½-ton motorized vault doors. Ductwork serving the bunker goes through the walls with double 90º bends to shield radiation. All other penetrations are angled 35º perpendicular to the cyclotron. Ancillary spaces include two R&D tech corridors, a material lift, utility room, and storage.
