York Hospital - Pharmacy Area Renovation

York Hospital underwent a complete renovation of the 7th Floor Pharmacy Area including demolition, new mechanical and electrical systems, new partitions, new laboratory casework and new finishes. The scope also included:

  • Demolition
  • New mechanical and electrical systems
  • New laboratory casework
  • New finishes
  • New clean room suite with automated equipment
All work was completed while maintaining existing pharmacy operation, and access to other offices and operative utility systems. Specialized ICRA practices were utilized. Extensive planning and coordination with hospital maintenance and pharmacy suite personnel was required to perform dust and noise producing work and new utility tie-ins at minimally disruptive times.

In order to allow for continued occupation of the remaining seventh floor facilities, the schedule was split into three phases. In the first phase, a parallel hallway was created to allow access to the balance of the 7th floor during and after construction. Phase 2 was expedited to minimize rerouting of pedestrian traffic to the existing pharmacy. Phase 3 included the construction of the clean room suite and the installation of new automated equipment which required an extended duration for the commissioning of both of these scopes of work. Careful coordination ensured that remaining 7th Floor areas remained open.

The project also included:

  • An addition of one rooftop air-handling unit
  • Modifications to three existing air-handling units
  • Extension of new emergency/normal power feeds from the basement electrical substations
  • Extension of chilled water mains from the 4th floor to the 7th floor
  • Replacement of the mechanical penthouse steam/hot water systems
