Healthcare and CCRC
Construction of a state-of-the-art hybrid biplanar catheterization suite within an operating hospital. The hybrid cath lab combines the imaging and procedural capabilities of a cardiac catheterization laboratory with a fully equipped operating room, enabling both catheterizations and open heart surgery in one room without moving the patient. The result is fewer invasive procedures, fewer instances of anesthesia, and fewer transfers for the hospital’s most vulnerable patients.
Renovations to the 5,250 square foot space included new lead-lined walls, floors and ceilings; seamless hygienic flooring; upgraded lighting; dedicated MEP systems; and structural modifications. Dedicated medical gasses include nitrous oxide, waste anesthesia gas, oxygen, vacuum and medical air, all of which required carefully coordinated shut-downs to tie into active systems. A new communication system allows doctors to share digital images and to collaborate with colleagues in remote locations.
Shoemaker provided constructability review, value engineering, budgeting, planning, and scheduling of construction activities to address all elements of ILSM, ICRA, noise control, off-shift work, and phasing necessary to assure uninterrupted operation of the existing cardiac care area.
