The project is the Support Services Building and is located at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. It consists of a 42,796 SF two-story structure on an existing site located on the Southeastern corner of the campus. The site is a triangular shape and surrounded by three existing roads: Campus Drive, Life Lion Drive, and Long Lane. The building will be a steel frame structure with micropiles and grade beams serving as the deep and shallow foundation systems, respectively. A portion of the structure (approximately 900-1000ft2) will be cast adjacent to an existing service tunnel. In the tunnel area, the building will be three stories tall with the basement level elevation being equal to that of the existing tunnel floor +/-. The primary function of this new Support Services Building is to accept and distribute materials and supplies for the medical campus. The new shipping and receiving docks will alleviate the current facilities congestion at the existing underground dock area and provide better access for tractor trailer deliveries. The new building will contain 8 truck dock doors and house a portion of the campus’s facility office and maintenance needs.
